March 2014 Interclub Regatta

This was the first regatta held at Onehunga Lagoon in Auckland. NMMS use Onehunga as an alternative venue to Wattle Farm. It’s a great facility, central, good facilities, easy parking.

We had 13 boats turn out for the regatta, 8 from NMMS and 5 from Gulf Harbour and North Shore.

Racing was very competitive with Mike McLachlan taking line honors and being clearly the dominant sailor on the day, although Ian Vickers, after missing the first race managed to stay out of trouble and take the last 4 races which placed him second overall. I must say its the first time I have seen Ian get beaten in a couple of races, maybe he was letting us win a few ;-). It was good to see Jimmy Brown back on the water, putting in a solid performance and taking out equal 4th place. Karl Stapro finished in third in his old style Tempest? anyway it goes to show the older non chined hulls are still pretty quick when you put them in the hands of the right person.

In terms of prizes, 1st Mike McLachlan, 2nd Ian Vickers, 3rd Karl Stapro

Mug of the Day – Jimmy Brown, Most Improved – Linton Little.

Also a special thanks to Graham Clough who was right in the mix , particularly for the first part of the day for coming along to each of our Sunday Sailing sessions over the last couple of months.

Another thanks to Mike from Whanganui who took down all of the results for each 9 races. Good man!
